Waterloo

The Waterloo project is being led by the Department of Family and Community Services, Land and Housing Corporation.

UrbanGrowth NSW is coordinating planning and preparing a masterplan that encompasses the Waterloo metro quarter, which is being redeveloped by UrbanGrowth NSW and Sydney Metro, and the Waterloo estate, which is being redeveloped by Land and Housing Corporation as part of the Communities Plus program.

The masterplan will allow for the staged redevelopment of Waterloo over the next 15-20 years.

Redevelopment will support the area’s diverse and vibrant community into the future and ensure more homes for people who need them alongside new community facilities and public open spaces.

New development is being planned to create a safer, well-connected place to live and work.

The new Waterloo metro quarter will be the heart of redevelopment in Waterloo. The new metro station will provide infrastructure to enable a higher density neighbourhood to be developed with easy access to the city and beyond.

Located between Botany Road, Cope Street, Raglan Street and Wellington Street, development of the Waterloo metro quarter provides opportunities for new homes, in addition to shops, work spaces and community facilities. Development will preserve the heritage-listed Congregational Church and provide new parks, playgrounds and shared public spaces for local communities.

Transport for NSW through Sydney Metro has acquired the land to construct the new underground Sydney Metro station. We are working with Sydney Metro to realise development opportunities on the Waterloo metro quarter.
