Community shaping plans for change

3 August 2015

Throughout May and June 2015, hundreds of people provided ideas and suggestions to help us confirm a shared vision, consider 10 key moves to help that vision come to life and, ultimately, progress the urban transformation strategy.

Our activities

  • More than 200 people attended a workshop at Carriageworks on 30 May to talk about draft design and planning principles to deliver the vision. We will have a report on the workshop available soon.
  • Throughout May nearly 50 people participated in a series of study nights and heard about the methodology and initial findings of studies on community facilities and services, heritage and housing diversity.
  • In late May we met with a dozen representatives of community organisations and groups to discuss our process to develop the transformation strategy, and we met with local service providers and community groups on request.
  • We had an interactive online forum that was visited by more than 3000 people.
  • We have been doorknocking local businesses and in early June we hosted a breakfast with the Sydney Chamber of Commerce to talk about creative, digital and knowledge-based jobs.

We continue to meet with local Aboriginal community leaders, liaise with social housing networks and maintain a presence at local markets to ensure people know about the planning process. We’re also working with Alexandria Park School to ensure young people can get involved.
