Work starts on repairs to the North Eveleigh Clothing Store

26 November 2015

Preliminary repair works have commenced on the Clothing Store building in preparation for its future role as a new community hub in the heart of the North Eveleigh precinct.

The community has highlighted the importance of heritage to the character of the area and the Clothing Store can play an important role in becoming the new heart of the residential community.

The two storey Clothing Store was built in 1911 and was used as a general store and clothing store for the railways. The building is part of the Eveleigh Railway Workshops heritage precinct.

The current works involve repairing the roof and windows, ensuring working electricity, water and sewerage are in place, and appropriately managing any hazardous materials on the site.

Once the repairs have been completed, the next step will be to look at short and long term uses with community partners. Have your say on how the Clothing Store could be used (not longer available).
